Choosing Wedding WineBack to Directory

By Yours Truly

For an elegant wedding reception, offer guests wine with dinner. If you are planning a wedding on a budget, it doesn't mean you have to serve bad wine.

Ask your reception site and caterer if you are allowed to buy wine from an outside vendor and bring it to the site. This way you can shop around for the best deal.

Be sure you have tasted the wines you have selected for your wedding taste. Don't rely solely on the recommendation of others.

For a summer wedding, choose a light white, such as a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. For a winter wedding, Merlot or Cabernet is appropriate. For an evening wedding, you will probably have to order more wine than a daytime wedding, when people drink less alcohol.

Consider the number of women on your guest list. Women tend to drink more wine than men. Also, how many people on your guest list are actually wine drinkers? If the number is very low, you may opt for cocktails and other beverages, skipping the wine altogether.

Ask your caterer to help you select wines that are appropriate for your menu. Generally, reds go with heavier dishes, while whites are a nice complement to seafood and poultry.

Don't forget about the champagne for the toast. You should order enough champagne for one glass per guest and then add 25% more. Most guests won't drink more than a courtesy sip during the toasting.

Wine Themed Favors

If you are a wine lover yourself or you are planning your wedding at a winery, consider giving wine themed wedding favors.

Miniature bottles of wine with personalized labels are a nice option. However, these can be an expensive choice if you are having a large number of guests.

Truly Wedding Favors offers a nice selection of wine bottle stoppers to match every wedding theme. From crystal to chrome and everything in between, you are certain to find bottle stopper favors that you will love.

Other wine themed favors include wine glass gel candles, wine motif coaster sets and grape design candles.
