If you need a little help to afford your honeymoon, you can register for your honeymoon just like you register for wedding gifts. With a honeymoon registry, your friends and family can contribute to the costs of your honeymoon as a gift to you. This is a great idea for couples who don't need a lot of household items. After all, an extra night in the Bahamas is probably a better present than a blender.
There are basically two types of honeymoon registries - agency registries and lodging-chain registries. If you register though an agency, you can select flights, hotel accommodations, meals, drinks, champagne, car rentals, limousines, cab fare, spa services and any number of other activities and merchandise items. Your friends and family don't have to purchase your whole airfare or lodging. You can split it up on the registry in increments of $100 or whatever you like. You can also ask for "shopping" or "honeymoon dollars," which is basically the equivalent of cash.
With lodging-chain registries, you can only select items associated with that particular hotel or resort - not selections from multiple vendors.
When creating your honeymoon registry, be sure to read all the small print on the agreement. Registries either charge a flat fee or a percentage. Compare several wedding registry companies and decide which one is right for you.
Is It Tacky?
Having a honeymoon registry isn't any tackier than having a wedding gift registry. You are basically helping your friends and relatives select a wedding gift that you will actually use. It's definitely not as tacky as printing, "Cash gifts preferred!" on your wedding invitation.
