The Tradition of Wedding Bells

Posted on November 23rd, 2007 by Kori Ellis in Wedding Favors

Wedding BellsIn a church wedding, it’s tradition to have the church bells rung as the couple emerges from the church after the ceremony is over. The ringing of the bells is supposed to drive away any evil spirits and ensure the couple’s good fortune as they begin their journey as man and wife.

Another tradition involving bells is during the actual wedding ceremony. You can have a child walk down the asile ringing a porecelain bell proclaiming, “The Bride is Coming!” right before the bride walks down the aisle. This is a cute tradition that your wedding guests will applaud.

You can also have smaller bells that are handed out as the guests enter the church. At the end of the ceremony, they will ring the bells as the bride and groom kiss and exit the church. These small bells can then be collected or taken by the guests to the reception site where they are rung again during the reception to invite the bride and groom to kiss.

If you are looking to purchase bells for your wedding, Truly Wedding Favors offers a wide variety of different bells.

You can choose the 4″ tall silver plated bells pictured here for as little as $2.29 each. If you want something even more affordable, select these little silver kissing bells. These small bells are 1″ high and your guests can use them as Christmas ornaments after the event. Stumble
