The Tradition of Wedding Bells

Kissing Bell FavorsWedding bells have been a part of weddings for centuries, symbolizing love, luck and new beginnings. In days gone by, church bells would ring across the countryside to signify that some event was happening at the church, be it a wedding, a funeral or a Sunday service. The bells were thought to bring good luck to the newlywed couple. Some superstitious tales would say that the bells also frightened away evil spirits and bad vibes to ensure marital bliss and happiness. Today, wedding bells are still oftentimes rung as the couple exits the church, as part of the ceremony, or at the wedding reception. Bells are also now a popular wedding theme, used on invitations, attached to centerpieces, and given to guests in the form of wedding bell favors.

White Open Heart Wedding Bell

A popular wedding tradition is for guests to ring bells that are placed on the tables at the wedding reception. When the wedding bells are rung, it’s a signal to the newlyweds to kiss. Though many couples have gone away from bells in recent years, they are a great choice for affordable wedding favors.

White Open Heart Wedding BellsWhen selecting wedding bell favors, you have many options to choose from. These White Open Heart Wedding Bells are cheap and functional too. Since they can be used as place card holders, they can do double duty. Each bell comes in black gift box, but it’s more logical to set them out next to each place setting on the guest tables.

Because these wedding favors are so inexpensive, you might also consider buying wedding favor boxes and filling them with candies and other treats for your guests.

The Tradition of Wedding Bells

Wedding BellsIn a church wedding, it’s tradition to have the church bells rung as the couple emerges from the church after the ceremony is over. The ringing of the bells is supposed to drive away any evil spirits and ensure the couple’s good fortune as they begin their journey as man and wife.

Another tradition involving bells is during the actual wedding ceremony. You can have a child walk down the asile ringing a porecelain bell proclaiming, “The Bride is Coming!” right before the bride walks down the aisle. This is a cute tradition that your wedding guests will applaud.

You can also have smaller bells that are handed out as the guests enter the church. At the end of the ceremony, they will ring the bells as the bride and groom kiss and exit the church. These small bells can then be collected or taken by the guests to the reception site where they are rung again during the reception to invite the bride and groom to kiss.

If you are looking to purchase bells for your wedding, Truly Wedding Favors offers a wide variety of different bells.

You can choose the 4″ tall silver plated bells pictured here for as little as $2.29 each. If you want something even more affordable, select these little silver kissing bells. These small bells are 1″ high and your guests can use them as Christmas ornaments after the event.
